Active & Inspired
About
Active and Inspired is a two-year funding programme encouraging children and young people to be active and inspired within their local community through projects run by local clubs and organisations.
There are many projects in the Wakefield District using to sport and physical activity to benefit young people from ages 6 - 25. Active and Inspired places young people at the heart of local activity, involving them in decision making and ensuring young people feel connected to their community, increasing young people's skills, confidence, physical and mental wellbeing.
Active and Inspired covers a wide range of projects from upgrading community sport facilities, multiple sport and fitness activities to creative arts sessions and much more.

The Active & Inspired programme is managed by Development Officer Umar Ahmed from the Health Improvement Team, Wakefield Council. Please contact him on uahmed@wakefield.gov.uk

About Umar
"I am passionate about taking the benefits sport and physical activity to as many communities as possible, particularly those who don't normally engage in sport. Through the power of sport and physical activity you can really make a difference, improving health to making community come together. Before joining Wakefield Council my past role was working for Sporting Equals, a national organisation working to increase diversity across all levels of sport from the pitch to the boardroom. I worked on local community projects to large national awards events. Big fan of football, particularly non-league football."

WF Youth’s Active and Inspired project held a special presentation day in Pontefract last December
Young participants of the projects were inspired by a visit from Castleford Tigers players Jesse Sene-Lefao and Peter Mata’utia, the players spoke to young people about importance of being active and answered questions on the life of a professional athlete. The Active & Inspired Team would like to thank Castleford Tigers Foundation and WF Youth.
