Anglers Country Park

Located 4 miles south-east of Wakefield, Anglers Country Park is dominated by a lake, surrounded by grassland, woodland and a wetland area known as the ‘Pol’. At one time this was the deepest open cast coal mine in the country, reaching a depth of 250 feet. Anglers has been awarded Green Flag status – recognising it as one of the best parks in the country. Close to the park is The Angler Retreat pub on Ferrytop Lane, a small traditional pub in a rural village setting which sells a variety of ales and is the perfect resting place after a long walk. Anglers park makes a great family day out, with a play area for young children, a picnic area plus a cafe, as well as offering numerous walks and stunning views across the lake which is perfect for skimming stones in!
