From 2020 to 2023 we built up a repository of information that tells the story of the sport and how its linked into the cultural and working-class backgrounds of the communities. This resulted in a searchable archive/repository and a spectacular Virtual Museum which you can see pictured in the images above.

The project tells the story from the time when rugby league split from rugby union, through to its modern renaissance with Newcastle Thunder as a progressive based club, through to the hosting of RLWC.

The project was overseen by Newcastle Rugby Foundation and funded with support of the National Lottery Heritage.
