A documentary film and VR experience about homelessness, addiction and recovery
A Virtual Reality (VR) experience bringing surviving on the streets to life and a documentary film about homelessness, addition and recovery that inspired it.
Amid a worsening housing crisis in the UK, ‘Streets of Change’ VR experience and film in different ways, both expose the harsh reality of homelessness, where the average age of death is 46 for men and 42 for women.
Through personal insights and real-life narratives, ‘Streets of Change VR’ sparks crucial conversations, challenges stigmas, inspires compassion and direct action. Using VR, audiences are immersed on being in the street at night and getting close to three people’s personal stories. Since its launch in 2024 the VR experience has toured extensively to regionally, nationally and internationally including at festivals and events. It won the Sona Immersive Storytelling Festival (US) Social Impact Award 2026.

‘Streets of Change’ the documentary film, explores the complexity of the homeless community, addiction and recovery in Northamptonshire and urges viewers to see beyond stereotypes. The film challenges public perceptions by bringing to light the lived experience of rough-sleepers and the outreach workers who support them. The documentary film has been selected at film festivals including in the US, toured regionally and is regularly used as a resource for awareness raising and training.
