Walk With Me
Exploring the identity and heritage of a community through mapping local walks and trails encouraging people to become more active and enjoy the outdoors
We used films we made in Havercroft and Ryhill over the last 30 years as a provocation to get people talking and reminiscing. We delivered creative writing and digital engagement workshops with children aged from 7 years right through to the elderly to generate stories, and images for the Walk With Me App. The interactive map links up local walks and trails with the area’s heritage and contributions from participants.
The Walk With Me App encourages people to go out and explore the community, feeling more connected to their local history. It is a resource for talking and sharing memories of the area. Walk With Me App was promoted through the local centres, GPs, and schools. Walk with Me was part of Wakefield Council’s Year of Walking.
The project was funded by Culture Cures - Wakefield Council
